Database Service

Please note that due to the current funding situation, the NGS is no longer offering free database services. If you are interested in using the NGS database service on a "paid for" basis, please contact the NGS helpdesk.

Databases are rapidly becoming an integral piece of every new piece of R&D and technology. They are vital for the storing of data that can be for a vast range of different reasons; from simple HR user/contact details to storing different strands of DNA that can be used to check for mutations.  As technology evolves, the need to store more and more data increases and with it.  The need to interrogate this data in a more and more efficient manor becomes a necessity as well.

With these needs in mind, the NGS offer two different kinds of databases to help the need of researchers.  These are an Oracle database and MySQL database. Both have their strengths and weaknesses which is why we offer two systems instead of one. We hope that doing this will mean that the user will be able to use the database which suits their need most. Please click on the links to find out more information.
